Sometimes, we don’t fall in love with a person.
We fall in love with the version of them we created in our hearts.
The way they made us feel.
The words we held onto.
The little gestures we turned into promises.
The future we quietly imagined.
And perhaps, that is the most beautiful—and painful—part of love.
Because sometimes, the person changes. Or perhaps, we simply begin to see them more clearly. And suddenly, we realise that the “YOU” we loved existed partly in our imagination.
I loved your kindness, your warmth, your presence. I loved the way I felt when I was around you. I loved the possibility of US—the story I kept writing in my head, one beautiful chapter at a time.
Maybe I wasn’t only loving you. Maybe I was loving THE “YOU” I BELIEVED you could be.
And when that version disappeared, I had to grieve—not just a person, but a dream.
Still, I don’t regret loving you.
Because the feelings were real. The memories were real. The happiness was real… even though the expectations weren’t.
And for a while, the world felt a little softer because I had someone to love.
Perhaps letting go isn’t about deciding that the love was wrong.
It’s about accepting that the “YOU” I LOVED and the “YOU” you are may simply be two different people.
And sometimes, the hardest goodbye isn’t to the person standing in front of you.
It’s to THE PERSON WE LOVED IN OUR HEART.
“I loved you; I dreamed you were the one my lonely heart could see.
Perhaps I never lost you—
I only lost the “YOU” I made you to be.”
